About Joy Of Alpacas

Why Joy Of Alpacas? Have you ever wanted to find all the show wins of a particular alpaca? Have you ever wanted to find the show results of the offspring, and their offspring, etc. of a particular Sire or Dam? These alpacas are spread throughout the country and for some sires and dams, cover a multiple generations. Ever wanted one computer site that will keep this information and update it automatically (relative term). Well, these questions and similar ones led to the development of Joy of Alpacas or www.JoyOfAlpacas.com. This development has led to another concept tool, The Power Pedigree Marketing.

What is Joy Of Alpacas and How does it Work?

Joy of Alpacas is an online searchable database of alpacas. Attached to these alpacas are two elements. (1) Show results, and (2) pedigree.

Not all alpacas are included in the database. Overwhelmingly, the database in comprised of alpacas that have one or more show results. In addition, the pedigree (ancestry/lineage/offspring/progeny/bloodline/descendent) of an alpaca is included if it becomes available. These pedigree alpacas may or may not have show results attached to them.

Most show results start in 2004 and go forward. There are a few show results prior to 2004. Prior to this time, reliable and usable data required for the database is not available.

Searching the database:

To see the results of a particular show click on the Show Winnings tab. Pull down the list of shows and then click on the show you want to see. The system then finds all the alpacas in that show and places them in their appropriate class and order of the placement. This may take a few moments depending on the speed of your internet connection.

Once the show is displayed, click on the registration number (hyperlink) of an alpaca, you can find all the show results for that alpaca. This function opens a separate window which needs to be closed once you have viewed the all results for that alpaca.

To find an alpaca, click on the Lineage & Offspring tab. Two options are displayed for you to use. If you know the registration number of the alpaca you are looking for, enter that number on the left hand side and click FIND. If you know the name or partial name of the alpaca, enter that name on the right hand side and click FIND. The database will display all alpacas with that name or partial name in the alpaca’s name. You then need to choose which alpaca you are looking for. You can narrow the choices by selecting the gender or type of alpaca. NOTE: that there may be multiple pages to view if there are more than 10 alpacas with those words in their name. Click on the page numbers at the top or bottom of the listing to see more choices.

Once you have found the right alpaca, you can click on various choices (use your browser’s back button to return to the choices.)

Details: Contains brief information about the alpaca
Pedigree: Shows the ancestry of the alpaca as far back as the information has become available
Progeny: displays the known offspring of that alpaca by generation.
Show Wins: displays all the known winnings of that alpaca.
Find Offspring Winners: displays the same information as “Progeny” but includes the show wins for each offspring and their offspring, etc. if known. Clicking on a given alpaca will display all the known show results for that alpaca.

You can now explore as much as you want and gather as much data as you want. Enjoy!

How are alpacas and pedigree information added?

The show results come from published recognized published show results from various systems and are added as they become available and time permits.

Pedigree information comes primarily from breeders like you who want that information included on this database. Breeders provide copies of registration certificates, offspring listings, etc. Information is also gathered from published show and sale catalogs and advertisements.

Any breeder can submit pedigree information about their alpaca at any time at NO COST to be included in this database by contacting Joy Of Alpacas at 970-586-9519 or email info@JoyOfAlpacas.com

The Power of Pedigree Marketing:

“Joy Of Alpacas is another tool to be added to all the other tools in selling, buying or breeding programs. It adds to the tools like micron reports, conformation, hands on examinations, veterinarian exams, consultant and more.”

Does an alpaca have to have been in the show ring to have marketing power? – No. Probably most alpacas sold or bought have not been in a show ring. So, how do you demonstrate its worth?

One way is through the results of its pedigree. Through Joy of Alpacas, you can research the dam, sire, grand dam, grandsire, etc. and find the show winnings of their offspring, and their offspring. Collecting this information for a buyer, seller, or farm/ranch that wants to improve their breeding program is available through Joy Of Alpacas (JOA). JOA searches all shows in the system and connects those results through pedigree information available. Is information missing? You can provide pedigree information at any time. We will add it to the database and you can continue with your research.
